In the UK there are 12 million adults with hearing loss. This is equivalent to around one in five adults. RNID estimate more than 40% of people over 50 years old in the UK have hearing loss, rising to more than 70% of people over the age of 70.
This year’s theme of #DeafAwarenessWeek (2nd – 8th May) is ‘Inclusion Deafness’ which aims to highlight the impact hearing loss can have on everyday life, raise issues of deafness that can be overlooked, demonstrate the importance of mental health in people with hearing loss and to explore the entire theme of inclusion within our community.
The UK Council of Deafness has asked the community to consider what deafness looks like and how it is experienced from the viewpoint of someone who is deaf. Whether this is in the form of painting, writing or talking to a camera, share your activities on social media using #MyDeafStory and #InclusionDeafness
